Bio
Thaís de Almeida Prado is a filmmaker, multidisciplinary artist and an actress; she has an . Thais’ work permeates the interdisciplinary boundaries between performance, dance, theatre, visual arts, cinema, music and literature. She develops performances, video-performances and processes with real time narratives going deeper in the cinematographic, theatrical and literary creation.
In October 2020 two of her films premiered: "Nowhere" (71 min) and "With My Dog-Eyes" (Com Meus Olhos de Cão; 45min). In the same month, as an actress, she premiered on the TV series "Noturnos", on the Canal Brasil (BR). In quarantine times, Thaís also participated in several online projects with her audiovisual works, such as the Fora_Dali (da Evasão), Pink Umbrellas (Threesome) and in some talks as in the perfocraze_international artistic residency, Expo-Laje and O Amor e a Peste projects. Thais made the project "Purge. From Violence. From Bodies that Collide. From Asphyxiation. From the fear of a metropolis", at the artistic residency at Centro da Terra, SP, and she was awarded with the Odyssée fellowship to develop a project in the artistic residence of the Saline Royale d'Arc-et-Senans, France. Thais directed the feature-film “Nowhere”, together with Flavia Couto; created the video installation "Icamiaba-Beatnik" alongside Lucas Bambozzi, co-create de VR videodanse “Coordinates”, and was the curator of the audiovisual project “Luz de 5ª, in Sao Paulo. Between 2015 and 2017 Thais spent a season in Germany where she collaborated with the artist November Wong on her project "The Poetics of Movement”, based on movement awareness. In Berlin, she also presented her latest performance "Untitled" at the event "What is going on, Brazil". In December 2016, in collaboration with Bianca Mendonça and Katharina Geyer, Thaís developed the dance-installation "Co2 and other Toxins", inspired by the dam disaster in Mariana (MG, Brazil) in 2015. The performance was presented in "Tanz.Tausch – Performance and Dance Festival" (Cologne), First-Steps Festival (Krefeld) and had a tourney in Brazil in July 2017.
In 2015 Thaís performed the installation "Property of a Private Collection", by the American artist Rachel Alliston, exhibited from February to March 2016 in the Art Gallery Centrum, Berlin. In June 2016 she was one of the curators of the “Film Stripping at Centrum”, a selection of short films part of the Festival 48hours Neukölln. She also created the performative-film "About Watching – a witness-film in miniseries”, a poetic making-of about Deise Pacheco's artwork. In 2007, she Thaís performed the working-progress project “The sleeper who…” that she created to be part of the exhibition “Tulse Luper Suitcases”, by Peter Greenaway.
In 2012, Thaís directed the short-film “Os Barcos” (The Boats) with Caetano Gotardo, which won the Prize of Best Short-Film in Vitoria Film Festival and the Prize of Best script in CineMUBE, Brazil; she also directed the video-performances “Passagens” (Passages, 2011) - that was part of the Dança em Foco Festival, Brazil and Festivals in San Giovani, Italy and Bilbao, Spain - and "Sohl Canal" (2010) - video created together with the students from a workshop that Thais coordinated, which was inspired by Maya Deren’s aesthetics and Patricia Galvão’s biography. Also in 2010, together with Rudá K. Andrade Thaís created the video-installation "Baú de Pagu" (Pagu's chest, 2010) about the artist Patricia Galvão (exhibited at Casa das Rosas, São Paulo Brazil).
From 2010 to 2014 she worked as a co-creator and performed in many projects as “IntranspoRníveis” - an audio-visual-narrative created in real time with video-mapping technics (Live Cinema Festival, 2010); “Origem / Destino” (Origin / Destination, 2012) an urban intervention inspired by the 4000 km of hidden rivers at São Paulo city; “Entulho-Excesso” (Waste-Excess, 2011) performance; “Aparelhos de Superar Ausências” (Devices To overcome Absence, 2013), an installative and performatic project.
From 2008 until 2010, Thaís was part of the artists’ collective Corrosivo, with whom she take part in some artistic residences as Saline Royale d'Arc et Senans, France, developing small site-specific performances and the experimental video “Exercice du Regarde”; Hangar.Org / Barcelona, Spain, developing urban interventions and a workshop about site-specific in Barcelona; and Casa das Caldeiras, Brazil where during one year the Corrosivo researched about the history of the space for create the performatic site-specific installation “Olhares entre Caldeiras”.
In 2006, Thais directed the choreography “Eu em Mim Só” (2006), with Karina Ka, as part of an artistic residence in Casa Hoffman, Curitiba, Brazil. In 2002, she joined the Companhia Auto-Reatrato, which combined performance, dance and theater. With the Company she developed “Retornarse” (2002), a hybrid of dance and theater based on personal memories of the performers; she also directed the choreography “80/min” (2003), which won the X Nascente Prize of Best Choreography. The Company celebrated its 10 years of work in 2012 presenting the repertoire of 4 plays in São Paulo city.
